Oil Pulling: An Ancient Technique for Full Body Detox

What is Oil Pulling?

Oil pulling is a natural and practical technique for full body detox, mentioned in Ancient India's Ayurveda. It is also known as "Kawal Grahakriya" and is believed to help in the excretion of toxins from the saliva to detoxify and purify the entire body.

How to do Oil Pulling?

  1. Take a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth in the early morning, before breakfast on an empty stomach.
  2. Pull or force the oil between all your teeth while squishing the oil in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. The oil will become thin and milky white, spit it out and rinse your mouth thoroughly with clean, warm, salty water.
  4. Rub your teeth and gum with a finger or brush while cleaning your mouth to ensure the oil comes out.

Things to keep in mind

  • Practice oil pulling once a day for seven to eight days in a stretch, then stop and repeat the practice after six months.
  • Do not swallow the oil during the practice as it contains impurities and toxins.
  • Be careful not to spit the oil in the wash machine, as it can cause clogging of the pipes.
  • If a person has dental fillings, then switch the oil gently.

Coconut oil, sunflower oil, or sesame oil can be used for oil pulling. Coconut oil is considered the best because it has anti-microbial activity and is effective against streptococcus mutants and candida albicans.

Benefits of Oil Pulling

Ayurveda states that the tongue is connected to various organs such as the kidney, heart, lungs, small intestine, etc. Oil pulling is believed to activate salivary enzymes, which absorb chemical, bacterial, and environmental toxins from the blood and remove them from the body through the tongue. This makes oil pulling an overall technique for the entire body's health.

Practice oil pulling systematically and you will see the difference as toxins are removed from the body and the body functions freely to do its job perfectly. Benefit from this practice and achieve overall health and wellness.
